So according to the young wizards website and amazon.com, A Wizard of Mars is going to be released April 14th, 2010.

Now that we have a definite date, anybody want to throw out any predictions, hopes, fears, random comments?

I have a pet theory that Nita is the avatar of some Power or other. >.> If that were to play out, I think I would scream loud enough to be heard in Australia.

OH MY GOD BOOK. I can't wait to finally read it.

I predict that pub date is going to get pushed back (again) :P

Dear god, I hate to say it but I think that this is the most accurate prediction likely to occur regarding this book. Is there any proof that DD is still alive and writing? Because if she pulls a Robert Jordan I will bring her back to life and kill her.

I'm alternately looking forward to and dreading the potential for Dairine/Roshaun drama. I feel like there's gotta be a decent amount of angst, but I also have this nagging feeling that D/R will be canon long before N/K (not that I would complain!).

On another note -- I don't know if this is likely to happen, but I'd love to hear more about that punishment worse than a life-price which make's Carl's face "close like a door" in Deep Wizardry...I've been trying forever to figure it out (perhaps in such a way that I could use it in a T/C fic) but everything I think of comes up too cliched.

I always assumed that the price greater than life was some sort of payment involving the soul, that would exclude it from Timeheart/whatever afterlife there is.

I think our best proof is that if something happened, it would be on her website? At least I hope so.

I always assumed that was either "giving up" something (because, in dying, you actually gain by going to Timeheart) you love for a greater cause. Which, yeah, sounds pretty cliched.

Perhaps it's giving up Timeheart for the real world, like Kit did in AWD, when he could have been able to create a perfect universe, but instead didn't, and he returned in Nita's time of need. (Does that make any sense? I've been playing around with the idea in terms of Roshaun and What The Hell Happened To Him.)

Hm, interesting thought in terms of a price -- I never really thought about it that way. But that just seems too bad to be wizardly possible! You know, like things like that shouldn't be able to happen in the YW universe. I always had this sort of romantic notion that it was something like losing all memory of one you had loved, or having to be the one to sacrifice (or at least stand by and watch and not be able to do anything about the sacrifice) of someone you loved. Oh man, and a T/C fic just wrote itself in my head. *scribbles down idea before it can squirm away*

And yes, the last bit makes some kind of sense. Again, it makes me think of season 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer...which (if I recall correctly) means about as much to you as the Dr. Who reference in High Wizardry meant to me until about a month ago. But there's definitely that idea of giving up 'heaven' to return to the problems of real life -- I'd be interested in seeing that developed. Increasingly, the YW crew is running in pretty high-up circles -- conversing with gods and goddesses and avatars and what-have-you almost every other page -- and you have to wonder when it's going to take its toll on them.

That also is very possible, having to sacrifice somebody you love. Or having to sit by for their sacrifice. I think that AWD (once again) kind of explored that. For Nita, yes, giving up her own life was a hard decision, but she was able to make the decision and would have gone through with it. Whereas, with her mom, she in fact made the opposite decision - therefore, giving up somebody/something you love, and I think that that is a harder decision.

Hahaa, I have been messing with a fic idea with that in mind. If DD doesn't bring Roshaun back before the next book (and if she doesn't give us a few more hints in that book) I may actually end up writing it.

I have this feeling that Roshaun's "rescue" (or whatever it is) will be saved for book 10. Mostly because well, that's a big project, and I am hoping that DD gives it what it deserves.
(Also, it would keep the focus on Mars and Nita and Kit, to have Dairine simply off working on that problem.)

My other prediction?
Nit and Kit will pull off diplomatic magic with the Martians.
And at the end, people on earth will have no idea what went on.
And they will contact Area 51, at some point!
(Hahaa, that last one was a joke. If it becomes canon, consider me flabbergasted!)

Jeez, at the moment, I'd just be delighted to see the book hit print. Having started writing myself (and having experienced the joys of getting blocked on a longer WIP), I have a lot more sympathy now for DD (and other writers) who seem to hit similar snags.

That doesn't mean, of course, that I'm not jonesin' like crazy . . . ;) :D

*hopes for some real Nita/Kit, but figures she'll end up hoping a good long while*
