Mix: Crowns of Fire
Aug. 28th, 2007 03:47 pmI made a Dairine/Roshaun mini-mix for
wanderlight a while ago, and I thought I would share it with the rest of you. The mix is set during Wizards at War, so there may be incidental spoilers.

Kryptonite - Three Doors Down
I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
After all I knew it had to be something to do with you
I really don't mind what happens now and then
As long as you'll be my friend at the end
Even through the trials and odd circumstances Dairine and Roshaun manage to find themselves in, they remain friends (and quite possibly more). (Also, we all know what happened on the dark side of the Moon.)
Intervention - The Arcade Fire
Working for the church
While your family dies
You take what they give you
And you keep it inside
Every spark of friendship and love
Will die without a home
Hear the solider groan, "We'll cry alone"
That's the essence of wizardry, isn't it? Helping love and life triumph over death, even when you want to give up. (The first two lines can also be construed as a reference to A Wizard's Dilemma, where Dairine can't help her mother.)
Hunting for Witches - Bloc Party
The Daily Mail says the enemy's among us,
Taking our women and taking our jobs,
All reasonable thought is being drowned out
By the non-stop baying, baying, baying for blood
So I go hunting for witches
I go hunting for witches
Heads are going to roll
I go hunting for...
Or, perhaps, hunting for wizards. The Lone Power might try to send the world into choas (Desperate and misinformed / Fear will keep us all in place), but Dairine and Roshaun (and all other wizards) will try to resist.
Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas
Carry on my wayward son,
For there'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Now don't you cry no more
This is Roshaun's song. He is hardly the king his parents and people want (if they want one at all), but he has other duties to the universe. He continues to carry on.
It's Beginning to Get to Me - Snow Patrol
And it's beginning to get to me
That I know more of the stars and sea
Than I do of what's in your head
Barely touching in our cold bed
Are you beginning to get get my point
That always fighting with aching joints
Is doing nothing but tire us out
No one knows what this fight's about
It's so thrilling but also wrong
Don't have to prove that you are so strong
'Cause I can carry you on my back
After our enemies attack
I tried to tell you before I left
But I was screaming under my breath
You are the only thing that makes sense
Just ignore all this present tense
This is Dairine and Roshaun's theme song. Neither of them understand each other, but they're so very alike in ways. They fight, certainly, but they are also each other's strength.
(The last quoted stanza is, of course, at the of Wizards at War. Let's hope that one day, Dairine doesn't have to ignore the present tense.)
Woman King - Iron and Wine
Hundred years, hundred more
Someday we may see a
Woman king, sword in hand
Swing at some evil and bleed
Dairine, of course. If there is any character who is capable of being the woman king described in this song - powerful, able to fight, but also compassionate.
Newgrange - Celtic Woman
This song describes the wonder and mysticism of wizardry.
Hope on Fire - Vienna Teng
Gotta fight, Gotta strike
'Cause there's no turning away
From what you don't want to know
Gotta see gotta be
If they're all going astray
Don't let them take you in tow
You're a one-man shift in the weather
You're the woman who just won't sell
Climbing up and ringing the bell
You're gonna make your mark this time,
You're gonna set your hope on fire
Dairine and Roshaun to the core, rebels with a cause.
Beyond the Sea - Celtic Woman
Somewhere beyond the sea
He's there watching for me
If I could fly like birds on high
Then straight to his arms I'd go sailing
It's far beyond the stars,
It's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon.
I don't think this song needs an explanation.

I really like "It's Beginning to Get to Me." And you're right, "Carry On Wayward Son" is just perfect for our favorite young king.
