Intro & icon and Oath
Nov. 25th, 2006 03:51 am*waves hello* I've lurked around this comm a bit, finally added it to my friends page today so I'll keep up with it. (And spent the last three hours going through all the posts from the beginning on.)
I snagged pretty much everyone's icons--didn't have time to comment on most, and I only have a free account, so 6 icons it is, and they're all full. I will, however, use many of them on IM, and want to compliment everyone on their amazing work.
When I first got onto LJ and discovered comms and icons, I didn't know anything about crediting people, and snagged right and left from posts and commenters' icons alike. I've been able to find the creators for all but 23 icons (and all of the icons I snagged tonight are in folders properly sorted by creator's nick). Does anyone have any advice for finding the creators of my orphaned icons?
I'm rather a newbie at icons (and learning as I go, fiddling with Photoshop and the occasional tutorial), but after seeing some words from Darryl's Oath on an icon, I wanted to do my own with those. Borrowing a base from somewhere (I'm pretty sure it was a free base), the below is the result:

If you snag it, please comment and credit. And hopefully the words are readable to you.
I also uploaded (to YouSendIt, so it expires within 7 days) a wav file of me speaking the Oath. I took a song by Amethystium and worked the Oath in with an echo effect, and it sounds rather cool. However, I'm not sure whether I should upload and post a link to that as well, so I'm going to wait and see if someone can tell me for sure on that.
What's the protocol on making icons from some of the word-pictures on YoungWizards.com? 'Twould be so easy, and I'm kind of wanting to.
And . . . I think that's about all I had to say here.

Thirdly, while I don't know the specific protocol on the YW.com images, in general using an image is considered OK as long as you cite the artist, or failing that the site, the image came from.
*snags the icon*
Thanks again for joining!

Date: 2006-11-25 04:47 pm (UTC)Oh, I snagged *mountains* without credit--and I'm part of a few borrowed/stolen icon comms. It's an interesting balance--for specific fandoms and collections I try to have 'em all assigned to their creators, for the generals, I'm really not sure who did most of 'em, and I have *way* too many to possibly upload anywhere for identification. My collection is somewhere in the thousands (and I don't even use the vast majority of them--yes, I'm crazy). The 23 orphaned ones I'm talking about are all from this fandom, however, and I have to wonder how well
OK then, if I make 'em into icons, I'll be sure to note where I got them from on the post.
You're welcome! :) I'm also open to any tips on improving icons, as I'm just starting to figure out what all Photoshop can do, and what all I *should* do with icons.
