Quick question.
Has it bothered anyone else that Nita still has a Library book? (I have not read all the books yet, bear with my,) But, as far as I am (half way through the series) She is still useing the library book.

Did she check it out permanantly? or just bought it? Was that explained, or am I just a dunce?

It's never explained.

I always entertained the idea that the librarian was a wizard. :3

It is sort of explained. Nita never checked the book out. She didn't have her library card with her, so the librarian told her to bring the book back and check it out later (which she never did, obviously).

I'd also guess that the librarian is a wizard.

(I wish I had the book with me so I could reread that scene...)

But that doesn't sound honorable, because she should have come back to check it out.
What I think is that is wasn't a real library book, and (I made up this scenario in my head) when Nita came back to the library to check it out, the librarian couldn't find it in the catalog, and let Nita have it....
possible? :)

That's always been my theory, only without Nita ever needing to return because the librarian, being a normal human, wouldn't remember seeing magic and so the book is Nita's by default.

Or no one ever tries to look for it. I mean, there is the interesting stuff in the cat-wizards novels about the NY public library's tie-ins with wizardry.

I just figured it wasn't actually a part of the library's collection, it just chose the library as a place to encounter Nita.

Exactly what I always thought. It looked like a library book because the manual can look like what it wants to.

She didn't actually check it out - she didn't havce her card, and the librarian told her to bring the card another time and take the book now. So as far as the library is concerned, it's still in the building.

Two possibilities - the librarian is either wizard or wizard-friendly and knew it wouldn't be coming back; or when Nita took it, another copy was put in place (by a wizard or the Powers) for the next young wizard to find.

I'm barely starting the fourth book, and uhm, nope. So far nothing's said...LOL I'd hate to get her library fine when she goes back to drop it off...

But she never properly checked it out so...

And it's a magic book and I'm sure she was meant to have it...

I often wonder if any other YW reader has noticed that Nita's manual is a library book.Did the librarian ever call her?Did they even notice she
had never returned that book?Or is it just me?...

The real question is...

How many people realize that one of DD's other characters wrote Nita's copy of the manual? :-)

Really? Who's the author of Nita's copy?I'd go check now, but my little sister has my copy of the book and she's sleeping.

That bugged me, but I always figured that at some point the library marked it as lost, Nita paid for it, and it was as good as hers. (That happened to me once when I was a kid, although I actually did lose it; I found it later, and they refunded my money.)
