The thing about Duane's books is that all the different universes seem to be related. I haven't seen any clear references to the Middle Kingdoms in later books, although some of her core thematic ideas are already there, but one character in Wizard's Holiday is, I think, of a species introduced in Doctor's Orders; aliens first mentioned in some of her Trek fic, such as the Mizarthu, appear in the YW series. It makes me feel I am not so nuts when my own original fiction seems to be tending that way.

And may I just say that The Door into Fire contains one of my favorite exchanges in fiction (quoted from memory):

"'What are you doooing?'"
"'We're fuuucking!'"

Oh, god, I LOVE that exchange.

And don't feel bad, I'm the same way, everything I write ends up in the same place, this is why LW charas end up writing themselves into HoIF and I'm only waiting for it to find a splice into Ataniell Cycle somehow, sigh.

Actually -- in The Wounded Sky, the nurse who has the rather insubstantial friends, who gets to see them more solidly during the transition stuff -- those creatures are of the same name as the dragons that Segnbora gets to be one of.
