Hi everyone, my name's Gaiti and if you were wondering yes I'm a girl! Actually I'm rather curious to know if we have any guys here, or many guys who write fics for this fandom. I'm involved with a few other fandoms and the majority pop seem to female. Go figure!

I discovered the young wizards series not to long ago, I'd say four or fives years. I read the first trio quickly enough, not thinking too much about it since the wizardry part seemed really complicated especially when it came to space, but I enjoyed it all the same.

And then a few years later, I was just browsing thru DD's works at me local library(where else?)and discovered she had written even more books so I booked 'em, and promptly fell in love with them. I didn't even know that an eighth book was coming out and I'm really excited ever since I found out (which was about 2 days ago!) I've been looking thru the memories and I'm so happy that someone posted the other two chaps, cause you know I love Ronan!

i'm quite glad he's come back, cause you know I feel sad about him, cause he's so conflicted and he and Neets make a good couple! Just think about all the snarking! But I love Kit no less, as well as Carmela and Dairine, who sometimes is so irritating but that's part of her charm, right?

I'm currently re-reading the series and I've started in the middle with A Wizard Abroad which I think maybe is my favourite 'cause I'm a rather big fan of Irish folklore and DD has used very well in the book.

hope some ppl comment, so we can talk!

I'm excited to see him become something more like a real character. We haven't gotten to see much of who he is, besides the divine wrath, impatience, and conflictedness (all right, Nita thinks he's funny, sensitive, and cute, but she would... and I haven't seen much evidence). He could be very interesting.

Also, to quote one of the mystery lines DD gave out, he is a celto-goth hunk, and therefore decorative and squeeful.

Hi Gaiti *waves* It's nice to see such an enthusiastic new member!! :D There are some guys around especially on the youngwizards.net forums but just like most fandoms, the vast population seems to be female. *sigh* Just the way it is, I suppose. Obviously us girls must just be cooler.

As for ficcers, there aren't all that many around at all! Which is the tragedy of the fandom. Oh, pain, oh, angst. ;)

We are, and they do. *does the Feminist Revolution dance*

Well, I don't know- I guess it would be harder, but if I was going to write in this fandom- which sadly I've only done once, guilt, guilt- I'd probably be pretty oblique about it. :P you could totally try that.

Besides, I think the fact that the wizardry is more complicated makes the books so much more compelling, you know? It's not just swish and flick, you really have to think about it and work at it and, also, it's totally about being a literature geek. I mean, your vocabulary is related to, not your ability to spell, but the effectiveness of the spell itself. How cool is that?? :P

Heh, true.

Mmm, I guess I prefer the more complicated, true-to-science forms of wizardry. I duuno, it just seems more... hmmm... it might just be that old liar's trick where the more truth you have mixed in with the lie, the better a lie it is... but also I think it makes me feel that wizardry is so much more possible than Harry Potter wizardry, which pays no attention to any form of science, does. :D

Granted. But science-based subjects aren't portrayed at all positively- everyone hates Potions, only Hermione takes Arithmancy and it's supposed to be dreadfully complicated and horrible- I mean, I do see your point, but in some ways I think those are like analogues to Chemistry and Calculus, whereas Charms and Transfiguration which aren't analogues so much seem to... be effortless, almost. You know? :P I'm fond of the idea that Arithmancy is like the theory of wizardry, how it works, but just the something-for-nothing element of HP wizardry seems so false to me. And even cheapening, in a way.

Dude, I love Ronan! Actually, I love that entire book, but that's not saying much as I also love the series.

Hrm...now I want to go off and write YW fic...

Oooo...icons. I've been needing some inspiration lately. Gimme a bit to re-read the book and I'll see what I can come up with. [plots] This will be fun. =D

I'd seriously love to see him become a more central character, the end of AWA was disappointing to me because it meant no more Ronan.
