As D.D. is a person of the West, her works are naturally going to be influenced by the Bible. Well, it is done purposely even, with the conflict between the Powers and the one that broke away. There is also that thing with the books: there is allways a "book". More isolated non-western cultures have songs, scrolls.. And the Temptation/Choice motif.
Well, what else have you noticed that ties into this influence?

Date: 2004-10-14 02:38 pm (UTC)The temptation/choice motif again is common at least to all branches of the Judeo-Christian-Islam "religion tree" if it can be called that, but also it features somewhat in others- I guess you could look at Persephone. Um, what else, other influences... I know there are many, there was a topic on it in the main YW forums a ways back, let me see...
Okay, here are some of the ideas suggested over there:
Semiramis was looking at the orders of being in Alones, and combined with this quote greycardigan came up with,
"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him"
-- suggests a certain influence at least in name-picking. :D
And... *goes scratching through the topics* Okay, I can't find the Christian references anywhere, but since I'm only looking in Misc issues it may well be somewhere else. So. um. *scratches head* I'll come back later and look more, I have to go to class now, but I would agree of course that there are Biblical references within YW that can for a Western writer scarcely be avoided.
