Dai stihó!
Dec. 6th, 2018 02:53 pmDai stihó, cousins!
Welcome to the YoungWizards community on Dreamwidth. This is both an import of the old Young Wizards community on LiveJournal and hopefully a revitalization of it.
The history of this place can be summed up fairly easily: the only discussion space in the 2000s for Young Wizards fans that wasn’t the official forum. It also had pretty much all types fanworks (fanmixes, icons, etc.) but fanfics were generally posted on Myraid_Words, a fic-centric community. I cannot guarantee that any links or images in the imported posts still work.
Fandom now seems to mostly exist on the Slack channel (which is a lovely place to go and has subchannels for a whole bunch of non-YW things), on AO3 for fic, and then Tumblr for a mix of everything (though the latter has, with the advent of the Slack channel a couple of years ago, quieted down immensely).
I’d like to see this community become is a mix of things: discussion, posting of fanworks, etc. All types of fanwork are welcome-- art, fic, meta, craft, fanmix, etc. Crosspost your fanart from Tumblr! Post your speculation for future books! Give us meta or prompts or whatever your heart desires.
I plan on hosting a monthly challenge to encourage people to participate here. You do not have to wait for the challenges to post fanworks; they’re welcome at any time.
There’s only a handful of rules:
1. Remember the Wizard’s Oath. Treat people how you want to be treated. If you have a problem with a post or someone’s behavior, contact me. Don’t start fights in the comments.
2. This community operates under “don’t like, don’t read.” All fanworks must be under a cut so people can choose whether or not to view them. If you need to warn for something, please do so before the cut.
Note that fanworks from the import are exempt from this rule because they can’t be edited. If a post is dated 2016 or earlier, cuts and warnings may or may not exist.
3. Mature or Adult-rated fanworks are allowed here. You must use the Adult Content/18+ age restriction to mark them. Per Diane Duane’s request, all characters involved in sexually explicit fanworks must be 18 or older (yes, this means you can age up the characters as long as you state you have).
4. We use tags in this community for organizational purposes. They should be self-explanatory, but if not, please ask.* You can add your own tags if you need them. A complete tag list can be found here or on the sidebar.
* The only one I can think of that might be confusing at first glance is “fandom adjacent,” which means things that are related to material in the books, but are not about canon itself. For example, space weather.
5. Have fun!
Now for the enjoyable part: let’s introduce ourselves in the comments so we can get to know each other a little better. Possible things you may want to include: your usernames elsewhere, links to your fanworks, how active you are on Dreamwidth, other fandoms, etc.
