. . . Question.

If Ed has been singing the Pale Slayer since the very first Twelvesong . . .

Who's going to sing the part now?

I suppose they'd find another shark willing to do the part in the future. The other players were always being acted by new wizards, so it's not like there isn't precedent.

... It's funny, this is the first Wizards post in a very long time, and I JUST, half an hour ago, finished reading Deep Wizardry HALF and hour ago. For the second time of course.

There are no accidents... <.< >.>.....

And yeah, Like the above post said - I'm sure they won't have too much trouble finding someone willing to take part for a free meal. A new Master has to rise from the Mastery, doesn't it?

Well, either they'll find a new Pale Slayer . . .

. . . or the world will blow up before they have to worry about it again.

(Yes, actually, that /is/ my typical answer to questions I don't know how to resolve: Don't worry! The Apocalypse will take care of everything!)

Really, though, I hadn't thought of that before. Huh.

that's the feeling that i got from it. like it is all over now, and they won't really have to do it again, because the Lone one has choices to make now, he's not doomed to forever repeat the lonely cycle forever.

Hmm... this is an interesting way of thinking about it. I never really thought of this question before, it's a good one.

Looking back on it, yes, it may well be the last Twelvesong... but somehow I doubt it. I think that most of the Lone One will change, but I'm not so certain that there will never be a need for it again. There will always be grave evil.

Um... I thought the fact that Kit and Nita SAW a shark at the end of the book sort of ment that Ed wasn't really dead - or rather that the Ed they knew died but there was always another Master Shark....

I got the same feeling. Granted I haven't read the book in years and my copy seems to have vanished somewhere beneath the massive piles of papers on my desk, but I remember feeling that that would be the last time that they would have to fight that particular battle in that particular form...

Didn't they mention something along those lines in one of the newer books? I could have sworn they alluded to something to that extent....

My take on that was that Ed was in Timeheart, and wouldn't be interacting with the normal world anymore.

I'm pretty sure that was timeheart. It kinda echoed the end of the first book like that, when they went to timeheart in a dream and saw Fred and the Lotus.
